FLESHER, Erle Cloyd - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

WILLIAMSPORT — A 70-year-old retired Warren county farmer burned to death after his clothing caught fire while he was lighting his pipe in the Warren county home near Carbondale early Wednesday. The dead man was Erle Cloyd Flesher, who had lived in the home over five years. All of his clothing burned off his body and he suffered third degree burns and from smoke inhalation. Mr. Flesher was discovered in his room at 6:15 a.m. by Roy Hines, superintendent of the home, who investigated after detecting the odor of burning clothing. It is believed that the elderly man had gotten up and dressed about 6 a.m. He apparently was lighting his pipe when the match or embers fell inside the front of his shirt and set his clothing afire. Hines called a physician arrived. The building was not damaged by fire. Mrs. Mildred Jean, Warren county coroner investigated. Mr. Flesher spent his life in Warren county and was a member of the Presbyterian church at Marshfield. He never was married. Surviving are a brother, Clifford of Attica, and two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Brenner of Sarasota, Fla., and Mrs. Ethel Nehrig of Lafayette.  --typed by Walt W
